Athletes aspiring to play professional football often set their sights on the National Football League (NFL), or “the League,” while failing to consider other attractive options such as the Canadian Football League. The Canadian Football League, or CFL, is a highly respected professional league that attracts a high level of talent. American football players at the collegiate level, and even some NFL players, have found the CFL a ripe ground for career opportunities. Two American football players who have benefited from this career move are Henry Burns and Kerry Joseph. Henry Burns established his star status with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before signing on at the age of 34 with the Green Bay Packers, and later the Chicago Bears. After a successful NFL career, Burns returned to the Roughriders, finishing up his CFL stats with nearly 250 touchdowns. In a slightly different twist, Joseph played with the Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks before joining the Ottawa Renegades, and later the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 2007 he was voted CFL’s Most Outstanding Player.
